In a message posted on his Facebook page, the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee writes, “I never [thought] I’d make it past 30…amazing to be here…happy…grateful…and with a ton of songs to sing….thank you all for sticking with me for this long long ride.”

The singer/songwriter, of course, is a founding member of both The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, and also has released several solo albums, the latest of which, Lighthouse, will arrive on October 21. Among the well-known songs he wrote or co-wrote are “Wooden Ships,” “Guinnevere,” “Almost Cut My Hair” and “Déjà Vu.”

The singer/songwriter also infamously struggled with drug abuse during the 1970s and ’80s, and spent nine months in jail in 1982 and ’83 after being convicted on drug and gun possession charges. In 1994, he underwent a liver transplant, and he also has experienced heart problems in recent years.

Earlier this year, David revealed in an interview with The San Diego Union-Tribune that Crosby, Stills & Nash were on an indefinite hiatus, because of conflicts between him and Graham Nash. He also revealed that he’s experiencing one of the most creative periods of his life, and that in addition to Lighthouse — which he made with Michael League, frontman of the modern-jazz collective Snarky Puppy — he was working on a second solo album with his son, CSN touring keyboardist James Raymond.

Crosby launches a new U.S. solo trek this Thursday, August 18 in South Orange, New Jersey. Check out all of his tour dates at DavidCrosby.com.
