David Bowie Up for Four Honors at Tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards

© Jimmy KingThe 2016 MTV Video Music Awards will air this Sunday night live from New York’s Madison Square Garden. Vying for honors at the event alongside such contemporary stars Beyoncé, Adele, Drake and Ariana Grande will be none other than the late David Bowie.

Two of the influential rocker’s videos, “Blackstar” and “Lazarus,” have received a total of four nods in various “professional” categories.

The video for “Blackstar,” the epic title track of Bowie’s final studio album, is up for the Best Art Direction trophy, while the “Lazarus” clip is nominated for the Best Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Editing awards.

Performers on Sunday’s telecast include Rihanna, who’s getting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, as well as Grande, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj and Nick Jonas. Beyoncé is the leading nominee with 11, while Adele is next with eight.

Tune in to MTV at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT to watch the 2016 VMAs.
