David Bowie honored with two Brit Awards

The rock legend nabbed the British Male Solo Artist prize, while his final studio album, Blackstar, received the British Album of the Year award at the 2017 ceremony, which was held today in London.

Dexter star Michael C. Hall, who is featured in the lead role in Lazarus — the stage production that Bowie co-wrote — accepted the British Male Solo Artist honor on David’s behalf. In addition, Bowie’s son, film director Duncan Jones, was on hand to pick up the British Album of the Year trophy.

In accepting the award, Jones said, “I was spending a lot of time after getting over the shock [of losing my father] trying to work out, ‘What would I want my son to know about his granddad?’…That he’s always been there supporting people who think they are a little bit weird or a little bit strange, a little bit different…So, this award is for all the kooks, and all the people who make the kooks.”
