David Bowie, Coldplay, Twenty One Pilots Winners at MTV VMAs

Columbia RecordsDavid Bowie‘s work was posthumously honored Sunday night at the MTV Video Music Awards.

His video for “Blackstar” was a winner in the Best Art Direction category. The late rocker was also nominated in the Best Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Editing categories for his “Lazarus” clip, but lost all three to Beyoncé‘s “Formation.”

Coldplay was also a winner in the professional categories. Their “Up&Up” video claimed the prize for Best Visual Effects.

Twenty One Pilots took the Best Rock Video category for “Heathens.” The other nominees in the category were Coldplay’s “Adventure of a Lifetime,” Panic! at the Disco‘s “Victorious,” Fall Out Boy‘s “Irresistible” with Demi Lovato, and All Time Low‘s “Missing You.”

The VMAs were held at Madison Square Garden in New York.
