WorkingTitle Films/UniversalA new trailer offers the first look at the unique comedy Yesterday, which tells the story of a failed British musician who gets hit by a bus and wakes up in a world where The Beatles never existed…and he’s the only one who remembers them.

The movie features Himesh Patel in the lead role of Jack Malik, who goes on to become the biggest music star in the world — by passing off The Beatles’ songs as his own. Yesterday also features Downtown Abbey‘s Lily James as Jack’s childhood friend Ellie and Saturday Night Live‘s Kate McKinnon as his agent, while pop star Ed Sheeran and Late Late Show host James Corden appear as themselves.

The trailer features a scene where Jack plays “Yesterday” on guitar for Ellie and other friends. They think he wrote the song, and stare blankly when Jack mentions Paul McCartney and The Beatles. Later in the clip, Jack plays “Let It Be” on piano for his supportive parents, who think it’s a new tune their son’s written.

The promo also shows glimpses of Jack becoming a pop sensation, playing in front of huge crowds and getting interviewed by Corden.

In the trailer’s final scene, Jack is in the studio with Sheeran, who advises him to change the lyrics to Fab Four classic “Hey Jude” to “Hey Dude.”

Yesterday was written by Love Actually writer/director Richard Curtis and directed by Danny Boyle of Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting fame. The movie opens on June 28.
