Courtesy of MSO PRSince founding Eagles singer/guitarist Glenn Frey‘s death this past January, the band’s remaining members have focused on various other musical endeavors. Bassist Timothy B. Schmit recently announced plans to release a new solo album called Leap of Faith in September, and a song from the record titled “Red Dirt Road” has now premiered on the Rolling Stone Country website.

Schmit tells the magazine that the track’s title is a reference to the soil found on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

“There’s some rich, deep soil there,” he explains. “You have a good chance of growing a plumeria tree by just sticking a branch of a plumeria into the ground. It’s unbelievable. That was the motivation.”

The 68-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer adds that the song itself is “about trying to enjoy your life. You can go about your daily business and see it from sunup to sundown — and see it in the best light possible, too — and then just enjoy yourself.”

Musically, “Red Dirt Road” boasts elements of various Americana genres, including traditional folk, bluegrass and Cajun, and features accordion played by famed Brian Wilson collaborator Van Dyke Parks.

Leap of Faith, a follow-up to Schmit’s 2009 album Expando, will be released on September 23.
