However, in a new Rolling Stone interview, the New Jersey rocker makes no bones about how he feels about Donald Trump, referring to the Republican nominee as “a moron.”

Asked for his opinion about “the Trump phenomenon,” the Boss declares that “the republic is under siege by a moron,” adding, “Without overstating it, it’s a tragedy for our democracy.”

Springsteen goes on to reference some inflammatory comments Trump has made during his campaign, such as suggesting that the upcoming election could be rigged in Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton‘s favor.

“When you start talking about elections being rigged, you’re pushing people beyond democratic governance,” Bruce maintains. “And it’s a very, very dangerous thing to do.”

In addition, Springsteen maintains that Trump is moving “very dangerous ideas [like] white nationalism and the alt-right movement” toward the mainstream.

Bruce says Trump has been able to garner such wide appeal by offering “simple answers to very complex problems,” while adding that he thinks those answers are “fallacious.”

With regard to whether he plans to get involved in the presidential campaign this year, Springsteen says, “I don’t know if we’ve been approached or not to do anything at the moment. If so, I would take it into consideration and see where it goes.”

As for his opinion of Clinton, Bruce says, “I like Hillary. I think she would be a very, very good president.”
