ABC/Adam Taylor; Noam Galai/Getty ImagesU2‘s Bono and R.E.M.‘s Michael Stipe are among over 30 artists to contribute to Souris Calle, and album recorded as a tribute to acclaimed French artist Sophie Calle‘s late cat, Souris.

The album accompanies an exhibit dedicated to the cat, which opened in Paris over the weekend. It also features contributions from Laurie Anderson, The National, Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, Pharrell Williams, Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker, electronic artist Jean-Michel Jarre and actress Irene Jacob.

In an interview with ArtNet over the summer, Calle described how she came up with the project.

“When you say you’re sad about the cat, it’s a bit obscene for people,” she said. “You can’t say that. I mean, if I say my mother or my father is dead, everyone tells me ‘Oh, poor thing, she lost her mother, oh, poor thing, she lost her father,’ but if we say that about our cat, we seem ridiculous.”

Calle added, “It makes me laugh, when for me, in my daily life, it was almost more violent, because I lived with my cat. I didn’t live with my parents.”

Souris Calle is now available as a triple-LP collection.
