Bon Jovi Takes on Broadway Tonight

Norman Jean RoyOne member of Bon Jovi is a Tony-winning Broadway composer, but tonight, the entire band hits New York’s Great White Way, playing their upcoming album This House Is Not for Sale for fans in the theater and online.

For the past month, Bon Jovi’s been performing live “listening events” in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., playing the new album in its entirety.  Tonight’s show at the Barrymore Theater on Broadway, is the final one.

“Normally, people play a record in a bar or at a little party,” says Bon Jovi keyboard player David Bryan.  “The idea is, this is a live listening party…and we said, ‘Let’s do this on Broadway, in a small, intimate theater.’ I can’t wait to do it.”

David’s pretty familiar with Broadway already, having co-written the Tony-winning show Memphis: The Musical, but he says tonight will be quite a change.  “This time I’m on stage playing my music,” he tells ABC Radio. “So it’s definitely a different viewpoint.”

David says tonight’s show, which will be live-streamed on Tidal for free, will be “really engaging,” because of all the stories Jon will be telling in between songs.  He tells ABC Radio that at the previous shows, “Nobody’s [eyes were], like, glassed over because you’re playing 15 new songs that they never heard before…people loved it.”

And David says so far, Bon Jovi fans who’ve seen these shows love the new songs.

“The fans on social media are…lighting up every day,” he tells ABC Radio. “I’m proud of this record and I’m proud of these songs and I’m proud of this band and it really shows in our fans. Our old fans, our new fans, really love it.”

This House Is Not for Sale comes out November 4.  The band kicks off a world tour in February.
