The Piano Man hit the stage during McCartney’s encore segment and performed two Beatles classics — “Get Back” and “Birthday” — with Sir Paul and his band.

McCartney played his usual marathon set at the Nassau Coliseum gig, featuring about 40 tunes that included a bevy of Fab Four tunes, as well as selections from his years with Wings and his solo career.

According to fan-recorded video posted on YouTube, McCartney announced during his encore, “Somebody has very kindly agreed to join us onstage. It’s Mr. Billy Joel!”

Joel then lent backing vocals and some nimble piano playing to “Get Back,” and then to “Birthday.”

In 2008, McCartney famously joined Joel as a surprise guest at Billy’s farewell concert for New York City’s Shea Stadium, which has since been demolished.

The current North American leg of McCartney’s One on One Tour continues tonight with another show at Nassau Coliseum. He’ll wrap up the trek with two concerts at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena, on October 1 and 2.
