Alice Cooper to reunite with original band mates at UK concerts

Rob Fenn/© earMUSICLast month, Alice Cooper reunited with the three other surviving members of the original Alice Cooper Band for a special set during his concert in Nashville, and now the shock rocker has announced plans to perform with his old collaborators again this fall. Cooper will be joined by bassist Dennis Dunaway, drummer Neal Smith and guitarist Michael Bruce for a few songs at his five U.K. shows, running from a November 11 concert in Leeds through a November 16 gig in London.

The performances will be part of Alice’s tour in support on his new studio album, Paranormal, which will be released July 28 and will include a bonus disc featuring two new tracks co-written and recorded by Cooper, Dunaway, Smith and Bruce.

Cooper explains that when his original band broke up in 1975, there was no bad blood: “we had just burned out the creative process.” He maintains that he always stayed in touch with Smith and Dunaway, while Bruce “disappeared for a while and [founding guitarist] Glen Buxton passed away in 1997.”

Fast forward to 2016, when, Cooper notes, “Neal called me up and said, ‘I have a couple of songs.’ I said, ‘Great, bring ’em over.’ Then he said Mike was stopping by, so I had them come to my house and we just worked on a few things for a week. Then Dennis called up and said, ‘I got a couple songs.’ So, I thought, ‘Hey, let’s do this!’ When you listen to the record, it just fits right in.”

As previously reported, Paranormal was produced by longtime Cooper collaborator Bob Ezrin, and features guest appearances by ZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons, U2‘s Larry Mullen Jr. and Deep Purple‘s Roger Glover.
